Frequently asked questions

Here are some of the questions which we are frequently asked. You can print this article or email it to read when convenient.

What areas do you cover?

We employ more than 450 service personnel throughout the UK. We provide full cover for all mainland UK areas and most major islands as well. It is highly likely that we have a specialist hygienist ready and available in your local area. If you would like to find out more, simply contact us.

How do I get started?

At PROtech IT Hygiene, we always work safely and professionally with you. We will establish any specific requirements your business has so that our service staff can be informed. We will then carry out a site survey to determine the exact numbers and locations of all equipment which require attention. At this point we will look to identify any health and safety issues which are particular to your business. This might include access, security or any other factors which may have an impact on the work our staff carry out at your premises.

What germs are you likely to find on my premises?

If you’re at all squeamish, you may want to skip this paragraph! There’s been a number of studies carried out which have identified the kinds of micro-organisms which are typically found on telephones and PCs.The bad news is that many of them can cause disease. The list includes germs which can cause cold sores, sore throats and food poisoning, as well as meningitis. In fact viruses and bacteria such as herpes simplex and staphylococcus are not uncommon. This is obviously a cause for concern for your business and your staff. Standard office use of a telephone makes it the most ideal places for such germs to thrive due to its close proximity to skin, and inhaled air. At PROtech IT Hygiene, our exclusive ‘Technogene’ germicidal system helps to remove these organisms leaving a protective film behind and also reduces the chances of transmission.

Are all your staff fully trained?

All our staff are directly employed and are fully trained to safely and effectively valet your IT equipment. We will ask for a signature on completion of each service to ensure that you are completely satisfied with the work.

Is there any legislation that applies to IT hygiene?

It’s clear that compliance with legislation in the current climate could save your business time and money. Relevant legislation includes the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 which sets general requirements. It covers four broad areas, the working environment, safety, facilities and housekeeping. The schedules call for characters on the screen to be well defined (2b), and keyboard keys to be legible (2c) and state that health can be affected by poor legibility of the screen. ‘Working with VDU’s’ advises it is good practice to ‘Make sure there are no layers of dirt, grime or finger marks on the screen’.

Who are PROtech IT Hygiene?

We are part of the Rentokil Initial Group. Our business started in 1911 (when we were known as Phonotas) and previously, we were known as Rentokil IT Hygiene. Following re-branding in 2006, we became Protech IT Hygiene.

What time of day do your hygienists work?

We can be flexible to suit your business requirements. The majority of our customers request that we attend their office during normal working hours. This is because in addition to the physical benefits of removing bacteria, and the technological benefits of helping to extend your IT equipment’s lifespan, there is a ‘well-being’ effect on staff who see that their IT equipment is being thoroughly and professionally cleaned. However, we are keen to avoid any disruption to your working environment, and if you would rather us provide a service outside normal working hours, this can be arranged.

How do I arrange a free Health Check?

If you would like us to visit your offices to perform a free Heath Check at a time convenient to you, simply click on the contact us link. Some offices are more hygienic than others, and our free Health Check offers a simple way for you to see whether your workplace could benefit from PROtech IT Hygiene equipment cleaning services.

Yes, no problem. We recommend you contact us to discuss your requirements.
